Dual-Xeon Dual core, or Dual-Core 2 Duo for trading apps?
I can spend about 4-5K per workstation, and I'm not sure if I should wait until the Core 2 Duo comes out and buy a high-end gaming machine with Dual Proc's, or get a Dell 490 workstation with Dual Xeon dual cores. Which is faster? I don't need any 3d. But programs are very math intensive.
Wait for the Core 2 duo or Core 2 extreme. Their performance in crunching numerial calculations is impressive.
If you can't wait, then the best candidate is Athlon FX-2 dual core followed by Pentium Extreme dual core. But these two will pick up the dust left behind by Core 2 duo and Core 2 extreme in a race.
