Can I swap a hard drive from a windows xp laptop into another laptop w/ windows vista and dual core processor?
My old windows xp laptop broke and I recently got a new laptop with windows vista and a dual core processor. Can I take the hard drive from the windows xp and put it in the computer with the vista? This is assuming that the hard drives are the same size. What operating system would I be running then? Can I run into any potential problems that could mess up either the new computer or the old hard drive? Would this combination work just like my old computer except faster with the new processor?
Could I use the repair disc that came with the original computer on the new computer if it failed (both are Toshibas)? Could I do the sawp with a laptop that was already running Windows XP?
if you took the hard drive out of the old laptop as is and put it in the new laptop, your computer would have XP on it... but it wouldn't run... the difference in hardware between the two systems would cause Windows to fail to be able to boot... you would have to do a repair install and you probably don't have a XP disc to accomplish that... but as is, no you can't just stick it in the system and have it work...
