Why are macs faster?
I own a dual 2.3 GHz Power PC that I bought last year...that computer SCREAMS!!! At work, I use a Dual Core Dual Processor 2.19 GHz PC running the latest beta of Vista. Both computers have 2 Gigs of RAM. The Mac still seems faster...not only a little, but a lot faster. Is Windows that much less efficient than Mac OS X? I know it is a beta of Vista on the PC, but it should be pretty close to the final version...
It's an empty "freshly ghosted" PC, with a minimum of applications...just what the operating system came with. The Mac is full of music recording software and music and mocvies and stuff... I swear, the PC is new out of the box...we just use it for testing...
Well other than the fact that you mentioned that the MAC OSX is more efficient, there's other reasons, because the original macs without the Intel's in them, had bigger & more pipelines than a PC does, also it has to do with the new arch, the mac's have 45nm processors & 65nm processors for a while now, and Intel & AMD have just started cracking that boundry. The smaller the nm gets' the more transistors they can put onto a processor, means the more work per cycle can be performed.
There's more, but honestly I can't remember the rest right now. I do know also that PC's still have a bottleneck effect through their processors & the northbridge etc, but Mac's don't, they just speed themselves along all the way up to the user. Many people stuck with PC's not knowing that mac's were still more powerful, and the price to performance was great.
