can my pc run 64-bit version of windows vista or even xp?
hi all. my computer right now is a gateway model 835GM. my motherboard is EM64T-capable. i think that's what it said. i called gateway to see if that means i can run 64-bit software and they had no idea what i was talking about. was wondering if anyone out there can help me. i would really like to use the faster processing power in my computer if possible. i have a dual-core processor both at 2.8ghz. i have 1gb or ram also. if anyone has answers that would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for all who answered. i again forgot to ask. now since i seem to know i can run 64-bit windows how do i do it? in my previous attempts to install windows vista 64 bit the beta version. the dvd would not boot up but with the 32-bit one it did boot. maybe it was the way i burned it to dvd. but i burned it the same way for both versions. so im confused
Yes you can run 64 bit. They only real reason to run it is to utilize all of your Ram when running more than 3gb of the stuff. You only have 1 gb so there is no point. If increased performance is what you want, you should increase your ram to 3 gb and get windows 7 when comes out October 22nd. Windows 7 is faster than XP and much faster than Vista in all tests.
