What is the fastest processor upgrade on a t40?
It is type 2376 and has 1.3ghz banias. Can i upgrade it to pentium m 755 2ghz ? What is the fastest processor i can put in there. I see that the m processor ending with 0, example 740, 750, 760 are 533mhz fsb and the ones ending in 5, ex 745, 755 are 400mhz. WIll the ones with 533 mhz work or do i need to stick with the 400mhz? i ask because the 533mhz ones are cheaper. Thanks
I ordered a t60. I wanted to sell off the t40, but its a nice machine so thinking of just upgrading it a little.
How big is the performance gain from 1.3ghz banias to dothan 755?
533MHz won't really work on your T40, so stick with a 400MHz FSB. You need T43 to do 533Mhz FSB.
A 755 should work fine.
Also, ask yourself if the upgrade is really worth it. A used T60 can be had for $250-$400, and those have far superior Core Duo and Core 2 Duo CPUs.
EDIT: I don't quite know if it'll be noticeable or not, depending on what you do. I upgraded from a 1.7GHz Celeron to a 2Ghz P4 and I barely noticed the upgrade, if at all. RAM might be a more worthwhile upgrade.
