how can I transfer my OS to another hard drive?
I want to have a like 160GB HD for my OS and etc and regular applications like PS, so it will load faster. At the moment it is on my 500GB HD, how can I transfer it?
This question is somewhat dependent on your operating system and maybe how fragmented your system disk is. For instance if your running windows 7 you may be able to compress the system partition down to a size below your target drive using a good disk defrager in safe mode and Manage( the computer management tool, right click on Computer to find it) If you can do that and you have two disk controller ports, you can do an internet search(Google) for Clonezilla, download the appropriate version, burn a CD and then plug in both disks and boot from the new CD. Clonezilla will copy which ever partitions you need from the old disk to the new one. Reset your configuration to boot the target disk and your done.
If your running Linux or one of Linux style systems you would just run dd and copy the partitions you need to the new disk, providing you have two disk ports.
If your running anything else you probably need to setup the new disk on the machine and remove the old one. Then set your boot up to boot your CD and then the new disk and stuff the disk that came with your machine into the CD and boot it.
Do not do anything to modify your old disk until you have a new system up and running and your sure you have everything off of the old disk.
You may be able to find some backup/restore utility that might do it for you but it will cost money and take you longer then all but the new install method. Find someone that has done this and get their help because I have read many reports that this has wasted peoples time and they have ended up buying multiple things before they found something that worked.
