How do i find which driver i need for my desktop system?
I need to find the driver for my desktop system so i can reinstall windows and clean off the computer. My mom had the computer built by a repair company and they didn't give us any drivers at all.
One way to do it is to open the case (easy to do, usually just a couple of screws hold the cover on and look for identifying information on the main board. With any luck, this will give you the company that made the board and the model number. Google the company to find its web site, most companies have a download section where you can get all the drivers that are normally shipped with the board. If you can't find the manufacturer of the board you can try to identify the manufacturer information for the audio, video, LAN, and modem chips and track down drivers that way . Some or all of this information may also be available in your Device manager since the system is currently functional.
If this fails, the one other option that comes to mind is to install Linux on it and not worry about Windows any more 
Most Linux distributions come with much wider driver support than the Windows install has!
With all that said, the 3 drivers most often not on the Windows install disk are audio, video, and modem. With most people having broadband service these days you may not care about the modem at all and the generic video drivers that come with Windows will work for you, though probably not at the full capability of the video adapter. A very large number of systems (especially those on the low end of the price spectrum) use the Realtek audio chip so you could always try a generic Realtek driver and see if it does the job for you.
