how to connect a pentium II windows 98 desktop to the internet?
with a wireless usb routher thing>??? im trying to connect it but im not sure if its too old or what... i try to put the XP edition but the cd rom isnt working properly... does anyone know how i can connect it the way it is?? thanks
Well, quite simply that depends on your wireless adapter. These are by no means absolute statements, but if it's 802.11b, it probably is compatible, but 802.11g and n are almost always incompatible.
The good news is that you can connect this computer to your router. The bad news is that you'll need wires. If it's got an integrated or preinstalled 10/100 Ethernet card, just run a Cat5 patch cable from your computer to your router (you can pick one up at any computer store/home depot). If not, you'll need to install an ethernet card, you can buy a new one for 10 bucks at a consumer electronics store, or a buck at a techno-refuse place. If you don't know how to install one, check online or have a geek friend do it, it's pretty easy if your computer doesn't have that abhorrent clamshell design.
