using up computer memory?
i have 2 gigs of memory, after my machine is on i put my email page in the lower system tray, then open ebay , then i check my system it says 2gigs memory, 1g available, 1 gig used up???, there is no way i could use up 1 gig for just email & ebay, i dont have any programs installed that are not necessary, just basic stuff, its a newer desktop computer win xp 3 & 512g h,d, any coments???
Uh, click on desktop and hold down the 'Windows Flag' button beside 'Ctrl' and press the 'Pause Break' button to the top right of your keyboard. Or go to My Computer and go to System Properties.
You should see a box come up with all of your system settings. Look for how much RAM is installed. If it says 1.00 GB, you either have two 512 MB sticks or one of your RAM chips is broken, not connected or loose. Try shuffling the RAM sticks into the slot gently but firmly and rebooting. If it says 2.00 GB, something is wrong with your operating system, or the utility you use to check your CPU usage is not recognizing the other stick or is broken.
This may require a few tries but if you have two 1GB sticks it should recognize them. If that doesn't work, one of your chips is broken or corrupt. Try doing a hardware analysis (I believe most new pcs have such a tool in their bios). If it recognizes both of them, something is wrong on the hardware side.
