I am gonna play computer games (Sims 2, LOST, Myst for example), keep books, use Microsoft Word and the Internet.
Which type of computer is good for all of those? Dell? Sony? Other?
I think any computer you can buy at the moment is good enough for these needs (I don't know the requirements of the game LOST though.) You don't need to pay $3000 like the first poster suggested.
If you really want to be able to play the latest computer games, then you have to invest some more in a computer with a good graphics card, and I think at least 2GB of memory.
