How is the Dell Precision M6400 for gaming?
I'm getting this laptop for school (Computer Animation major). But just because it's good for computer animation does it mean that it's good for gaming too? If that's a dumb question I'm sorry, I don't know much about computers. Here is a link to the laptop:

It's not a dumb question, computer technology is hard to follow because it's everchanging. About the computer, It's going to be able to do some gaming such as World of Warcraft and Sims 3, etc, etc.
As far as high end gaming, maybe not. It's got a decent video card but you may want to upgrade the processor to the Quad Core (+$650) from the P8700 that it comes with standard. You can see this places you at around $2100-2400 now.
If you want real gaming AND the ability for computer animation, then get a Dell Alienware M17x or M15x. Even the XPS 16 with the Core i7 Quad Core comes with a better video card than the Precision. You will still spend around $2000 (and even up to $4000) but it will outperform the Precision.
The Precision M6400 laptops are great, however they're also made for mobile users who use high level business software such as stock-trading software, AutoCAD, etc...Not really computer animators and gamers. Look into an Alienware or the XPS. The Precision's also are very expensive for the level of performance you get because they do have a more durable all metal body compared to the Alienwares and XPS's which have only partial metal bodies. In my opinion, I'd take performance over all-metal bodies anyday. Ideally, both is nice, but the Alienwares are definitely cooler looking.
