Can I add the Hard drive from an emachines computer with XP to a dell computer with Vista? ?
I want to have both hard drives in the dell computer. I will use the dell Vista as a "Master" HD and the emachines hard drive as a "slave" drive. I also want to keep all the information on the emachines drive. I did not know if having BOTH window OS on different drives would mess any thing up.
Please don't answer this if you have no Fracking clue what the answer is.
Yes it is possible to do this.
Only problem you need to worry about is when the computer starts up.. which HDD it looks at to boot off of.
So, install the HDD in the case, and turn the computer on. If you see a loading screen for Vista, you dont have to do anything. If you see a loading screen for XP.. do this...
1. boot the computer up
2. watch the screen carefully; find out which key to press to get to the bios settings (i think it may be F2)
3. restart your computer.. begin pressing the key immediately
4. this will take you to this bios menu.. look for anything along the lines of "boot settings"
5. you should be able to change the order of the boot devices (ie DVD, HDD, USB).
6. be sure to put the dell HDD 1st on the list, and the emachine hdd lower on the list.
