Is this a good computer?
I was browsing ebay when I found this auction:

Is it a good buy? Is it a good upgrade over a rather old Dimension 3000? How about gaming?
i see you've decided to look at buying new rather than upgrading an older computer, i would not get the computer you have posted as its too small so upgrading will be difficult and also the graphics card is rubbish meaning that gaming will be a no go
i recommend sticking with dell they are a good make

this computer is a starting block at $299 for a tower only the rest of the cost depends if you want to keep with the original spec:
CPU
Intel Celeron 2.2Ghz 450 - recommend upgrading to 2.5Ghz Dual core E5200 for an extra $60
Memory
2GB DDR2 800MHz- 2x1GB - fine for all but the most demanding of games and upgrading yourself is easy and fairly cheap (as i mentioned on your previus question)
Monitor
not included - only consider a new monitor if you realy need one
Hard drive
320GB - fine for storing a few games and photos etc.. there will be space inside for extra hard drive or you can buy an external hard drive if needed
Operating system
Vista home basic - is fine for most tasks but i would recommend upgrading to Home Premium for the extra $30 (the added features is worth it)
DVD drive
16x speed rw - recommend upgrading to 2xDVD RW drives one with dual layer possibilities for extra $30
Sound
integrated 7.1 audio - you can upgarde this but i don't see why you would
Video
Integrated Intel media acceletor 3100 - strongly recommend upgrading this to ATI Radeon HD 3450 256MB for extra $60 for decent gaming performance or if you prefer for even more performance go for Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT 256MB this is an extra $150 instead of standard graphics
TV tuner
not included - add this if you want
Kb and mouse
included-i find dells standard kayboard and mouse to be decent and reliable so why pay for something else?
Bluetooth
not included-you can add a media hub that is bluetooth but also 13 in 1 memory card reader for $40 but ask yourself do you need a memory card reader? and do you need bluetooth?
Modem
not included-with broadband available today you don't need a modem unless you are still on dial-up internet as with broadband the connection is dealt with via ethernet or USB and an external modem
WIFI
not included-if you want wireless broadband then you can have 802.11g (good coverage) for extra $30 or 802.11n (best coverage and speed) extra $70
my recommeded configuration
2.5Ghz Dual core E5200 (extra $60)
2GB DDR RAM
320GB Hard drive
Vista home premium (extra $30)
2xDVD RW drives one with dual layer capabilities (extra $30)
integrated 7.1 sound
ATI Radeon HD 3450 256MB (extra $60)
802.11g WIFI card (extra $30)
my configuration would cost $479 exc delivery charges (i don't know if these are included) that is $180 more than the stock computer and for such a little amount more you will have a computer that can cope with most of todays games
if you really really want an all singing all dancing monster of a gaming computer then youcan pay alot more for faster processors, better RAM, better graphics cards and not only from dell but elsewhere aswell
