What processors can i use?
What are my processor limitations?
I am upgrading my 03' dell dimension 2400 and have no idea what the limitations for the mobo are. All I know is that it has a 478 P4 socket and the faulty processor that I pulled from it reads as a P4 2.4Ghz 512/533 do i have to look for processors with in the 512/533 FSB or can I put one of the 800FSB processors in it? Also i need to know where to find the serial/model number on my motherboard....thanks
512/533 means 512KB L2-cache and FSB 533Mhz. the problem is the socket 478 for them you barely will find a CPU (probably on ebay). in my opinion it's no more worth to replace a socket 478 CPU.
you better get a new mobo (the format you need is most likely a micro ATX) with socket 775 and e.g. an Intel Allendale E2220 CPU.
