I have an old dell 2400 dimension runing xp and has a pentium 4 thing but could I upgrading it to intel core 2

The problem is unlikely to be the processor...best spent money is on RAM...I recommend at least 512mb for XP...but you might try a little housekeeping first...run disk cleanup ( START>>programs>>accessories>>system tools)
Defrag (same place)
Uninstall unused programs....
Doing this regularly will improve your PC performance.
