im using a dell computer and i added a hp hard drive if i format the hp hard drive what will happen
Nothing other than it will be formatted and erased. The maker of the hard drive matters not. As long as they are standard ATA or SATA drives and you have them configured properly it should work.
Besides neither HP nor Dell make their own hard drives, they usually go with a third party manufacturer like Western Digital, Seagate, Maxtor, or some other company.
If you're having problems configuring the drives, just go to the manufacturer's web page and look up the model. It will be able to help you with jumper configurations (if your drive isn't SATA)
