I have a Dell Dimension 8300 running on Windows XP.
The 2 gb will be faster than the 1 gb.
Anything Windows runs out of RAM (which is frequently), it has to move something out of RAM and into a temporary hard drive file, called the swap file or virutal memory. That is a very slow processor, both unloading and loading it back when needed.
If you have ever scrolled a page, and had everything stop for a few seconds before the page actually scrolled, you were watching it move the old page our of RAM and replace it with the new page from the swap file.
The more memory, the less often it has to do, and the faster the PC will run. It is the simpliest, cheapest and more effective way to increase the speed of a computer.
