Dell Ram upgrade resulting in no system boot? PLEASE HELP all details listed...?
Hi thanks for your help, I have a
dell inspiron 6400 laptop,
Inspiron 6400 standard motherboard,
Runs windows Vista a little slowly so wanted to upgrade the ram to its max 1GB per slot capacity. 2GB total
In each slot currently it has
2x 512MB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S-555-12-A3 RAM modules
I purchased after the advise of crucial memory scanner and some other sites
2 x 1GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12-E0 RAM modules.
These should work I am sure of it but unfortunately it results in the system not booting. The memory is seated correctly in the housing as I have installed ram before and I can install the old ones back in resulting in it working again fine.
Any help much appreciated

Sounds like one of the new memory strips may be faulty. try only putting one strip in at a time and then boot up, if one works then take it out and try the other, this should show the guilty memory strip.
If they both dont work then you need to check that either the speed rating on the memory strips are not higher than the laptop can handle or that unfortunately both strips are faulty in which case you need to take them to a decent computer shop and have them tested.
