What is the best internal hard drive for a Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook?
I am having a hard time choosing between a WD2500BJKT and a WD2500BEKT hard drive for my Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook. They are both manufactured by Western Digital and they both are 250gb, 16mb cache, 7200rpm, sata disks. Which one would be better for my laptop?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the only difference that one has the free fall sensor, and the other doesn't?
If you're like me, and your laptop seldom moves (desktop replacement), and has little chance of being dropped or jarred abruptly while it is powered up, I'd get the one without the free fall sensor. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that some drives with this type of feature (don't recall which brands) have a tendency to make more relatively loud noises (perhaps randomly parking the heads?).
On the otherhand, if your laptop use is fairly mobile, I suppose a feature such as this could be a lifesaver for your data in the event of a drop or severe jarring of the laptop.
