dead hard drive???????
so last night my dell d620 laptopworked fine as usuall.. this morning BSOD.. not sure what happened but reformatted and reinstalled with a "dell operating system disk" and now i have the error message"file missing or corrupt..windowssystem32configsystem.
nothing worked did a clean install too. i just got a winXP disk and that only brings me to another BSOD.
im pretty confused ive been here before and have been able to fix the problem.

the dell cd works through all sections of the windows setup and repair does not help. CHKDSK notes one or more errors on disk but i dont know what/where they are.
The following will give you the best chance of getting a successful repair done.
In general you want to do a repair install and NOT use the repair console.

If you can no longer do a repair install or find it too complicated, DO NOT reformat and reinstall as this will wipe you out and leave you with nothing but the operating system. You would have to reinstall all your programs and much of your data would be inaccessible.
Reimage can repair your system even if a repair install fails. It costs a little but it is well worth it to save your data. It takes about 30 minutes and preserves your programs and data. If you are not happy with the results, you don't have to pay and you can reverse any changes that it made.
