Installing Windows XP without service pack on Core i3?
When installing windows xp with no service pack on Core i3 530, the screen stops at setup is checking your configuration for a very long time - is this normal or is there a problem like Win XP setup does not identify certain hardware like SATA drives or anything like that ?
You're right, the problem is that XP doesn't contain SATA drivers. You need to find and download the textmode version of your hard drive interface drivers (chipset), plus you need a blank CD and a program called nLite. http://www.nliteos.com/ You use nLite to make an image of your Windows XP setup CD which includes the SATA drivers, and burn it to a blank CD. Now when you use this disc to install XP it will work. The alternative way is to put the drivers on a floppy disk (if you have a drive) and then press F6 to load them at the start of Win XP setup when it says, "Press F6 if you need to install third party SCSI or RAID drivers" at the bottom of the screen. Without SATA drivers XP Setup will always fail.
