Can I add this quad core processor to my computer?
I have a Dell Dimension E521(http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfh/desktops/dimen_e521/pd.aspx?refid=dimen_e521&cs=22&s=dfh ) go to the spec tab and it says it's AM2, and it shows the processors it supports, here is the processor, AMD Phenom Quad 9750 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103250 ) the processor is AM2 also but on the E521 spec tab the processor isn't on there. Here is my current processor, AMD Athlon X2 64 3800+ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103735 ) I am thinking since this computer comes with a stock 305 Watt power supply it can't use this processor unless I also upgrade my power supply. What do you think?
i think you should stick with whats on the supported cpu list. most OEM's lock there bios to only allow you to use certain cpus (makes oyu buy a new computer sooner) so regardless of power the bios wont allow it. you can always call dell and double check though
