Which processor is faster: a 2.8 GHz P4 or a 1.66 GHz Core Duo?
I have two computers, one is an older Sony Vaio desktop with a 2.8 GHz P4 and the other is a two year old Mac Mini with a 1.66 GHz Core Duo processor. Both systems have 2 GB RAM.
I'll considering installing BootCamp on the Mac Mini along with Microsoft Vista, and I'm wondering what performance will be like, generally speaking. I know there are plenty of other factors (graphics performance, HD performance, etc.). I'm just looking for some guideline. For example, will Vista load about as fast on either machine, or faster on one versus the other? Is there a decent matrix that shows relative performance of various processors?
a dual core has two cores, each that runs at the rated speed. They do not add to each other. They distribute the load between them.
Which is faster? Depends on what you are doing. However, if you are doing VERY little, just running one major piece of software, for example, then the 2.8ghz processor is faster. It will just slow down the more load you put on it. The 1.66ghz dual core will run slower from the get go, but it will be harder to make slow down, since it will distribute the demand on it.
