What is faster: a 3.4ghz single core processor or a dual core 1.7ghz processor?
I'm confused on the difference between single core, dual core, core 2 duo, and quad core processors. Is a 1.7ghz dual core processor equivalent to a 3.4ghz single core processor? Does it work like two separate processors, both with 1.7ghz? And if so, does that mean a 1.7ghz quad core has 6.8ghz total?
Single Core- 1 core processor
Dual Core-1 Processor with two cores
Core 2 Duo-Same thing as dual core only slightly more efficient.
Quad Core- 1 processor with 4 cores
Multi-cores provide multi-threading wherein it subdivides the tasks on its cores.
It works like 2 processors and will operate a 1.7ghz dual core like a 3.4ghz, only more efficiently
