I have win xp in my 40gb hdd i want to add another 80gb hdd and install linux in 50gb space.?
I have win xp in my 40gb hdd i want to add another 80gb hdd and install linux in 50gb space.How can I use the remaining 30gb free space in XP.? what would be the differentpartitioning space for 50gb linux installation(fedora core 5)?
To use 30 GB of space for Windows XP, physically install the second disk (making sure to set the master/slave jumper appropriately, if sharing a single IDE channel with your current drive, and seeing that drive reports correctly in BIOS Setup, thereafter), use Start --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management --> Storage --> Disk Management to create a primary partition of 30 GB, label it D:, and format it for use with NTFS or FAT32 file system.
Proceed with your fedora installation in a second primary partition on the disk, perhaps creating logical partitions within that for /swap, /root, /usr etc. If you use grub as your boot loader, you'll want to point it at the MBR of your primary disk, so that you'll be presented with dual boot choices at start up. If you intend to continue using NTLDR as your boot loader, edit its MBR and boot.ini to suit whatever you set up for your Linux /boot device.
