It depends on what you do with it and how long you're going to have it. The dual core will beat the quad core (except for the ultra-expensive Extreme series) for just about every task available today. Theoretically, there may someday be software designed to take advantage of the quad core, and when/if that happens, the quad core will be better. Until then, quad core is just potential horsepower that goes to waste.
