Control keys not working on Vista laptop, anyone know how to fix this?
I have a HP laptop that runs Windows Vista. All of a sudden, both my control keys stopped working (I can't do ctrl+alt+delete, copy, paste, select all, find, etc.) Does anyone know a fix for this? Serious answers please - I want a fix, not a computer replacement so don't just tell me to get a Mac.
I think it can be due to the either of the two accessibility feature in vista called sticky keys or filter keys being turned on.
1. With Sticky Keys, when you press any modifier key (Control, Alt) it remains active until a non modifier key is pressed. This is useful for people who have difficulty pressing two or more keys at once.
To turn off this feature follow the steps

Change How Your Keyboard Works
Set-up Sticky Keys
Un-check "Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times

Un-check "Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times"
2. Filter Keys is an annoying Windows feature that can be turned off permanently in one simple step. Filter Keys ignores keyboard input unless the key is held down for a significant period of time, and is triggered when you hold down a key, such as shift, for 8 seconds.
