Can I connect my old HP pc to my TV so I can watch netflix on my Tv? My computer is a?
HP pavilion a1243w and my tv is a new toshiba 55zv65ou. My computer does not have a spot to screw a cable into, Maybe there is a other type? Or do I just need a new computer? please help.
The Pavilion a1243w does not have TV-RF, HDMI or DVI output ports. However, your Toshiba 55zv65ou does have a 15-pin VGA input port. You could unplug your monitor and run a cable (15-pin analog VGA) from the 15-pin video connector of the PC to the 15-pin connector on your Toshiba screen and then select "PC" input on the TV. You would also need to connect an audio cable from the audio output jack to the audio input jack of the TV to get sound.
You could also add a video card to your computer with an HDMI interface. Your computer has a PCI Express expansion slot. You can get a PCI Express video card with an HDMI interface and a DVI interface for as little as $45. You would install the new video card and software then move your monitor to the card's DVI interface (using a DVI to VGA-15-pin adapter, usually included) and then disable your built-in video card (via BIOS). Then connect an HDMI cable (sold separately) between the HDMI port on the new video card and your TV. The HDMI cable carries both the video and audio signals, so no other cables would be required. This would allow you to use both the computer screen and TV at the same time.
You might need to upgrade your RAM. The a1243w came with 512MB RAM. 1024MB (1GB) is generally considered minimum now. You can go to www.crucial.com to find out what memory is available for your computer and how much it costs. Finally, your computer only has 80GB of hard disk space. If you are low on space you might need to add another disk or replace the one you've got.
If you're not comfortable upgrading PC's you are advised to find a local shop to do this work for you.
