What are the minimum specifications required to install Windows Vista on a computer?
Hey! please tell me about it in detail and also tell me whether I can run vista as well as xp together in 80gb hard disk.Also tell me which version of vista is best suited for home purpose.
To run Vista with acceptable performance, you need an AMD or Intel processor with atleast 1 GHz of speed (with the exception of Pentium 1,2,3 or 4, none will cut it regardless of GHz. Maybe the Pentium 4, but it won't be pretty.) At least 1 GB of Ram, A graphics card that is DirectX 9 compatible with 128MB of video ram or more, 60 GB or more hard disk space, and a DVD drive.
Recommended settings are an Intel Core Duo processor 1.6 Ghz or more, 2 GB of Ram or more, and a DirectX 10 compatible graphics card.
These settings are based on first hand experience, not on official Microsoft requirements, which do not reflect real-world experience. If you run Vista with Microsoft's bare mininum requirements, it will be SO much slower than the same computer running XP.
If you don't meet the Vista's requirements, and are thinking of buying a new computer, seriously look into buying a mac. All macs made in the last two years are capable of running Windows Vista, Windows XP, and the superior Mac OS X Leopard, or all OSes on the same computer, with equal or better performance then typical PCs.
Macs running windows are great gaming machines. I play Half Life 2 on my two-year-old iMac with the graphics settings maxed out.
