My DVI port is a purely digital port. How can I add a second monitor to my desktop?
The computer is about a year old, an HP. I have two monitors, both VGA cables will work in the single VGA port. However, using an adaptor, the DVI gets not signal to either monitor when plugged in. Is there a way to get the second monitor hooked up to my desktop? I made 3 trips to Best Buy to make this work, and it was all a complete waste of time and gas. Thanks in advance for the help.
Usually you have to go into the computer's display settings and configure the DVI port to be used in addition to or instead of the single VGA port. You might also have to go into the computer's BIOS/CMOS configuration to enable the DVI port (depending on the computer).
You can get a DVI to VGA adapter cable to hook up to your VGA monitor from your DVI connector (I'm guessing that's what you did) and it should work just fine. You just need to configure the computer in the right areas. It isn't usually automatic.
You might need a tech to help you set it up if you're not sure of what to do. It should only take a few minutes if they know what they're doing.
