Netbooks based on the N450 CPU use much less battery power, they are faster, they have a faster front-side bus, and have a better graphics chip than N270 netbooks.
The Starter edition of Win7 sucks, and so some people have replaced it with the regular Win7 Home edition. With Win7, you would also want to upgrade to 2 gigabytes of RAM. Windows XP uses less hard drive space and memory, so you normally shouldn't need to upgrade to 2 gigabytes of RAM.
I don't want to go into all the stuff about the differences between the two operating systems, but XP would be a better choice for netbooks, despite being an older operating system.
Remember that netbooks are not meant to be used as your main computer. It is meant to be a cheaper, smaller computer than a laptop for LIGHT computer work. The graphics and processing speed of netbooks are significantly slower than even the cheapest laptop that you can get these days (eMachines/Acer/Gateway 15" laptop with a slow AMD TF-20 CPU). Essentially, the netbook speed is equivalent to a 6 year old computer with a horrible built-in video chip (as opposed to a separate video card), like the old 2.x Ghz Pentium IV desktop computers. If you're going to have the netbook as your main computer, then I REALLY suggest that you get a laptop instead.
