where can i find the firmware and drivers for my CD/DVD ROM drive for my compaq presario 1200 laptop?
my problem is that It reads DVDs but does not read CDs

The problem isn't with your firmware or drivers (the optical drive is plug-n-play so no drivers are necessary). The problem is that the CD-reading mechanism has failed in the drive. The drive actually has two different lasers and lens assemblies for reading CDs and DVDs respectively. The CD-portion of your drive has failed.
