Audio Speakers Not Working with Desktop?
Hey. I bought a new desktop computer and I ran into a problem. The speakers I plugged into the system worked at the beginning. After installing updates, now the speakers don't work. The actual desktop's internal speakers work, but not the external ones I have attached to the desktop. Any clue?
I have an HP Compaq DC5750.

I would say it is a Sound Card Driver in need of update, and no your speakers.
I would right click on My Computer, then select Manage, then select the Device Manager(This is also found under Perfomance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Computer Management in the Control Panel). Once in Device Manager scroll down and expand the category Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
Take down the information listed there and go to the Manufacturer's website for that card, or google it.

You can also go into Start then Control Panel then Sound, Speech and Audio Devices, and select Sound and Audio Devices.
Click the Hardware tab and here is listed your playback devices and your sound card. Now only look at the ones with Sound, Video and Game Controllers as the Type of Device, which is seen to the right of the Name of the Device.

Also check the volume settings for MIDI and Wave/MP3 are not muted, by double clicking the volume icon on your task bar.
