Will an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ processor work in a Compaq Presario 6000 (6420nx)?
The current processor is an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ and my brother needs to upgrade without a new motherboard if possible.
You need to get a CPU that has a matching socket type.
In your case, it is 462 Socket A which is quite old. You have limited options. Mostly buying used on eBay.
I wouldn't try to upgrade the motherboard.
I'd search on www.slickdeals.net and get a new Core2Duo or Quad core dell etc for <$500.
