i have a compaq pressario, i want to upgrade speed, graphics & memory. Should i buy new parts or a new laptop?
bought in 2005 with Windows XP service pack 2
256mb RAM, 40Gb
Pentium M, Centrino
with Bluetooth and WiFi

First of all i recomend you to try upgrading the ram , i am sure that with 1 giga of ram your computer will feel faster.
you might think why?
it is because usually windows XP use around 200 mb of ram and when you start programs this amount will increase when you pass the 256 mb the computer will start using the hard drive and make it a lot and i mean a lot more slow.
Second, i suggest you back up your data and format your PC from 0 with the recovery disk that your laptop came with , this will give a fresh start.
if you dont wish to format it you can try to use ccleaner wich is a free utility that clean your pc from junk and also fix registry problems
in few words i would recomend first to check your model of laptop and see if you can upgrade it to 1 giga or more, this will increase the perfomance.
also you can try to increase perfomance by disabling things from windows XP like Hibernating mode and indexing mode.
