Can't boot windows from XP backup DVD?
I am fixing a computer for a relative, and they gave me a back up ISO dvd for windows xp home edition, and for some reason I can't boot the computer from it. I have disabled everything from booting besides the optical CD/DVD drive and now when I start the computer it says "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". I also have a Windows Vista back up ISO DVD from my computer that seems to run fine and I can boot from. I have never had this problem before and I don't really work with XP and this is actually the first time I will be doing a fresh XP install. I have done Vista installs, but not XP. Any help? Is there something else I can try? Also if I start the DVD from windows, the "Install windows XP" part is greyed out, usually meaning it can't be done from windows.
Sounds like a corrupt disk.
Or the option to burn hidden files was not selected, i.e...no boot!
If your Vista can boot the problem is not with your BIOS.
Get one from somewhere else that works.
And use your Product Code Key.
If it's a VOL license disk...you will need a license key code.
