A slow computer makes working or playing around on your PC painful! It seems like a short time ago this same computer was flying around on cyberspace. Now, it doesn't even load a web page without making you wait for what seems like a year while it ever so slowly downloads the page piece by piece.
Ironically, newer, high powered PC's running the latest versions of Windows, namely XP, Vista and 7, have more slowing down problems than their ancestors which ran Windows 95, 98 and the like. Of course, you could argue these earlier computers didn't have that much speed to begin with and you'd be right. Therein lies the problem.

Today's computers push around so many more bits of information than their predeccessors, it takes an operating system hitting on all its cylinders to obtain the necessary pushing required to keep your computer fast. These days, a computer walks a fine line these between being a finely tuned speed merchant and an all-out-of-whack bundle of aggravation.
So, what happens to our PC's that makes them sometimes become such miserable performers? Many times the problem can be laid at the feet of registry corruption. However, to understand what registry corruption is, it is important we know exactly what the registry is all about.
What a Registry Does
All Windows operating systems contain a hierarchal data base known as a registry. Information about anything the OS needs to address, internally or externally is stored in this registry. Windows needs to use the information stored there to perform even the most fundamental of tasks.
The registry is in the center of all the operating system's activities. It is responsible for making the software able to communicate with the hardware. If bits of inexact information start to populate the registry, there will be poor internal OS communication flow and the computer will become slow; maybe even so slow the PC will be unusable. The important thing to understand here is; these bits of inexact information are what we call registry corruption.
Sometimes registry corruption will cause an operating system to do its next operation in a round-about way. Sometimes it will cause the operating system to perform a function that is of no value whatsoever. Doing these things, of course, are time-wasters and to the outside world make it look like the computer has stalled.
When a significant amount of corruption gathers inside the registry, the computer's performance will suffer. When a good registry cleaner is used, registry corruption is eliminated. This will allow the operating system to once again communicate freely and so the computer will be able to complete its tasks at its top speed once again.
Personally, when I try to use a computer that is running slow, it just about makes me want to jump out a window. Probably, most people feel about the same way. Fortunately, a lot of times a simple registry cleaning gets a slow computer running great again. Of course, not every computer that has ever lost its speed did so because of registry corruption, but lots of times it surely is the instigator behind an ailing PC.
