pentium 4 3.0ghz from pentium 4 2.8ghz problems?
I need help i just put a pentium 4 3.0ghz cpu in my computer it is an upgrade from a p4 2.8ghz. The only problem is it does not boot up. The socket is the same 478, but the fsb is higher and the ceche is higher. Also it is the HT edition chip! what could the problem be? I think maybe the bios but have tried updating the bios with my vista operating system but no joy intel does not seem to have vista bios just all xp. please help
Go to the website for your motherboard and see what bios you need to run the new cpu. You're gonna have to have that bios or later to run the 3.0 cpu. You will have to flash your bios with the 2.8 cpu in of course. If there isn't an online flash utility for Vista you'll have to flash it in DOS or use a quick flash utility if your board has one. A quick flash utility lets you flash bios by pressing a couple keys upon start up that goes into quickflash and looks for your bios on floppy or CD. Make sure you read the flashing procedure carefully and make sure its the right one for your board because if you flash the bios wrong theres a very good chance that your board will be ruined!
