Error Message:Reboot and select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device?
I have gotten this error for a couple of weeks. I don't know what to do. I have tried to boot fom my XP Cd and reinstal XP on my PC but it says that it Cannot detect my hard drive. It takes for ever to turn on my computer. Yesterday I had to wait 20 minutes, turning it on and off and it finally started. I am no turning off my computer. Or it will not turn back on. Someone please help.
Details:MDG PC Windows XP Home Edition SP2. Intel Celeron 2.8GHz. 72GB Hard Drive 512MB RAM and CDRW and Floppy Drive.
When it says the error message, my floppy drive's light flashes and I hear a sound that I hear when there is a Diskette in the floppy drive, and when I press enter the message repeates and I hear the sound again.
A 72 gb hard drive? That's a new one. Anyways, on to your problem. Your problem is your hard drive (in case you haven't gotten that part). First off, you MUST turn off your computer. I know you are afraid that it will not turn on but you simply cannot do this with the power on (you can either short your entire computer out, thus making it useless, or you can electrocute yourself which is definitely not fun). Once you shut off your computer, open the side panel and confirm that your IDE/ATA/SATA cable is firmly and correctly connected to your hard drive AND motherboard. Then, check the little pins on your hard drive to the left of the IDE cable. Make sure that the pin selector is either set to Master IDE or Cable Select. If everything is connected correctly, make sure no dust is building up inside. If your computer still refuses to boot Windows, enter the BIOS (usually done when the computer first starts to boot up by pressing F8 or DEL or something of this nature) and run the Disk Configuration utility (this tells your computer what is connected where and what kind of hard drive it's using). Make sure that it detects your hard drive. Once it is detected, you should have no problems boot Windows or reinstalling Windows (whichever you prefer)
*In some rare cases, switching the four-pronged power cable plugged into your hard drive for a newer unused one can do the trick.

Go into your BIOS, and change the Drive Boot Order so that the CD-Rom comes first. It should be able to boot and install your windows from there after you save it to that configuration (make sure you set it back to the Hard Drive first after you've installed Windows successfully)
