How should I go about expanding my RAM on my computer?

basically saying that i have 512 MB ram memory installed and that I can upgrade to 2gb. I want to make it so I can add another gig to what I have already.. So should I buy half and half, just one gig, or other suggestions?

listen the bus is important in ram like bus 800 if 2 ram with bus 800 1 is 512 MB and other is !GB they will work.but if the bus arent same they wont work try to make it 2*1GB

if u wanna have for e.g 2GB ram its better to buy 2*1GB why ?
because it cause ur bus become dual i mean that 800 become 1600 thats better i think u understand what i mean.
