Is the Dell Optiplex 745 upgradeable?
I'm thinking about upgrading a Dell Optiplex 745 tower, if it's upgradeable, The components that I want to upgrade are from a core 2 duo cpu to a quad core cpu, from 2 GB RAM to 4 or 8 GB(if it supports 8 GB) RAM, from 160 GB HDD to a bigger much faster HDD, from DVD ROM/CDRW to a BD Burner with CD/DVD burning and lightscribe, from Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit to a Windows XP Professional SP3 64-bit, and video and audio cards if the motherboard supports them. Oh, and last but not least, should I replace the power supply or will the one it comes with be able to handle such an upgrade; and do I need to install another fan(s). Please let me know if this upgrade is even possible with what I provided. All help, suggestions, recommendations, comments are appreciated, thanks in advance.
YES but;
1. For Core 2 quad, it would depend on the BIOS. More recent quads (Penryn technology) may require a BIOS upgrade. Older Core 2 quad may not be easy to find.
2. Up 8GB of ddr2-667 RAM is supported. If ddr2-800, only 4GB is supported.

3. Consider the Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB or WD Caviar Black 1TB
4. You may just encounter driver issues with Win XP 64bit. Consider Win 7 64 bit.
My ageing rig below is based on a similar chipset as the one used on the Optiplex 745. It works flawlessly on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit;
