Is 512mb memory good on XP?
i have a desktop pc which runs on pc133 sdram 256mb of memory, it's not painfully slow but definitely slow. i'm now thinking of replacing those 2 sticks of 128mb to two sticks of pc133 sdram 256mb that would total to 512mb of ram..how much of a performance difference would there be upgrading from 256 to 512mb ram on xp? i read from some website that 512mb ram is the recommended starting point memory for xp..kinda like what 1gb ram does to vista
Well, it all depends on the type of RAM. You seem to have DDR ram which is an older type of ram, seeing as DDR2 and DDR3 are being used now.
512 is good to begin with on Windows XP but if you really want to do any extensive work on your computer you should expand the memory to at least 1 or 2gb to be able to do multiple tasks smoothly (or at least rather smoothly).
That kind of RAM shouldn't cost much nowadays so you shouldn't have a problem buying RAM and expanding the memory on your computer.
