COD4/GTAIV LAG? WHY? NEW GRAPHICS CARD!!!?
I have just bought a new graphics called:
Because my 8600gt broke. My cod4 didnt lag and my pc couldent play gta iv...
My new card is:
HIS HD 4670 IceQ Edition 1GB VGA DVI HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card
And system specs:
3ghz intel processor..
4gb ddr2 ram
160gb hdd
HIS HD 4670 IceQ Edition 1GB
700w psu
xp service pack 3
My cod4 gets 125 fps... then it drops to like 4-20 fps for 2 seconds sometimes.. or other times lags... It on low resolution 1024 x 800 think it is... The card should also run GTAIV... Its on youtube my card playing GTA IV on loads of people pc's

I aint got the specs here as im on laptop but no its not dual core.. its just intel pentium 3ghz.. no dual or nothing....
K cheerz,... If I was to buy a cheap dual core cpu like 2.4ghz dual.. would this perform better?

as allready mentioned the HIS HD 4670 IceQ Edition 1GB isnt the most powerful card there is and allthough fully dx10 and shader model 4.1 compliant it would struggle to run the majority of todays games at decent resolution and detail
and the inclusion of the inferior 128bit memory interface is probally one of many reasons for the lag and stutter in games such as gta4 and call of duty 4
so how can we improve the performance? ...well for starters you should be looking at a graphic card with nothing less than a 256bit memory interface,this will ensure decent frame rates and minimal lag and stutter,however also the onboard memory capacity is also important and this should be nothing less than 512mb
other majpr factors include the core and memory clock speeds aswell as the memory bandwidth which to be honest is a great indicator on a cards overall performance,for example the bigger the memory bandwidth the better the card
as for running games on a laptop,forget it !...if i had a quid for everytime i have heard laptop users complain about lack of gaming facilities i would be a very rich man....then again if you have a spare £2500 you can actually get a pretty awesome alienware notebook with sli graphics and a core 2 quad mobile cpu,but with two and a half grand you could also buy a core i7 based rig with quad sli gpu,s
solution : for optimal frame rates,minimal lag and minimal damage to your bank balance the nvidia gts250 or the radeon HD4850 are the best cards out there,these can be purchased for under £80 and will ensure excellent detail and frame rates in most games,the only game that may suffer at higher levels is our old friend "crysis"
however allthough i would normally not recommend any cards with a 128bit memory interface theres a relatively new card called the radeon HD4770 which is pretty good,it may have a inferior 128bit interface however with a 800mhz core clock and a mammoth 3200mhz memory clock this makes the HD4770 a strong performer and using gddr5 memory it also makes a great prospect for overclockers
