How can I get Windows XP to recognise my 40gb SATA HDD?
I removed my floppy drive to install a multi card reader in the floppy bay. When I booted up again there was a red 'x' near the desktop link to my slave HDD - drive 'F'. I double-clicked and a dialogue box said "The drive or network that the shortcut refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again".
The system recognises the drive. However, Control Panel and Device Manager don't. I have disconnected and re-booted, then installed again. It's a MAXTOR.
Help please!!!!.....I have 10GB of precious photo's - only half are backed-up!! DOH!!
I've had the HDD for ages! If the system recognises it, surely the cables etc are fine?
1.check for jumper setting.
2. check data cable from motherboard to you HD.
3. you need to format it before your system will recognize it.
