How to use more than 3GB RAM on Dell Studio 15?
I have 4GB of RAM, and my laptop only uses 3GB.

Extra RAM upgrade from 3GB to 4GB when purchasing Vista 32bit....
the problem is caused by a combination of what others said
32bit only supports 4gb combined system memory, so usually only 3/3.5 is visible and if you have intel intergrated graphics, the memory that uses will also be subtracted from your 4gb
the best solution would be to contact microsoft. im pretty sure if you buy 32bit windows its a free update to 64, you just need to order the cd.
one bit of advice is that a lot of addons like wireless cards and tvtuners especially are not compatable with vista 64 and even less with xp64 so unless you are gaming, editing video or rendering other things in 3d it may be to your benefit to stay with 32 and 3gb ram
