What does it mean if a laptop has 2GB memory but 250GB hard drive?
So basically, the more memory it is the more efficiently and quickly it runs, and the more hard drive, the more stuff you can keep on there, like music etc?
2GB memory means 2 GB random access memory, the computer processor works on data when it is in memory, so when the computer is working and it needs to process certain data it loads that data from the hard drive into the memory where it can process it really quickly. When finished it puts the data block back on the hard drive and takes the next required block of data, repeating this until it has completed all of its processing steps.
Having 2GB means it can take and process data in bigger blocks and consequently this improves performance. This process is called paging and is why the memory is called random access memory.
250GB on the hard drive is the amount of storage space you have on your computer to keep all your program software, files, and media data.
If you store high resolution files like videos, graphics etc you will need more storage space.
