Computer career help?
I'm 14 years old and I'm currently building a custom PC. After my computer is finished, I want to start building them for other people to make some money. When I turn 18 i hope to have a business that will repair computers, build custom computers, and have general support for technical issues. (specialty will be building the computers) I would also like to start in something using computers like Web Design, Programming, and all of that stuff. Once my computer is finished I want to use it to learn this stuff. I am going to be using the Ubuntu Linux distro.
I know this question is more of a story but what I'm asking for is any tips on any of this. Ideas, software, books, anything about all of that.
theres lots of different programming languages, so pick one that you'd like to learn first, and then concentrate on that until you get good at it. Dont try to learn lots of different ones at the same time.
Asp.net, C# and sharepoint seem to be the 'in-thing' right now, at least where i am..so you may want to try your hand at that. AFAIK its microsoft dependant, so you cant use it on linux.
Also Java would be good i think.(C++ and C# are in ways similar to java, so learning one of the 3 of them will def help to learn the others later on) Stay clear of languages that are obsolete or are on the way to becoming obsolete. Have a look at job sites to see what companies are looking for right now.
Another thing - if you have an idea as to what area you want to work in later, this will affect what programs you should learn e.g. -if you want to be a web designer, then you should learn html, flash, adobe photoshop etc..things a web designer needs to know. But say you want to be a web developer, then you need to learn things like php or asp.net.
Have a look at careers sites or job sites to find out what you should learn if you know a specific area you want to specialise in later.
Have a look at lynda.com - they have lots of tutorials, i believe some are free and others you have to pay a subscription charge.
join a more technical forum where lots of programmers post and ask questions there - prob get better answers than here. I did programming in college but i didnt like it so i do more tech supposrt nowadays, so there would be a lot of people who could give you better tips than me
