I have nearly 10 gb of music on windows media player. Can i get those songs on an ipod without paying $$$?
I do not want to use itunes for my ipod. Can i get songs from windows media player on it or do i have to buy all of those songs off of itunes?
If these songs are in .mp3 or .wav format then you can put them on the ipod no probs.
If you are not very tech-oriented then it may be difficult to remember what the heck format they are in!
Help is at hand. Use My Computer to get to the folder where the music is stored (typically the My Music folder within My Documents). Go to Tools on the folder menu and click Folder options. Click on the View tab in the thingy that pops up.
In Advanced Settings make sure that "Hide extensions for known file types" is DESELECTED that is has no tick in the box. Now each file name will show the filetype...like "favorite artist-favoritesong.mp3" etc.
If the songs are in regular wma format, then as far as I remember the ipod doesn't support that "natively" but you can convert them to mp3 with a relatively cheap program called Media Toys available as a paid download from Microsoft.
Theoretically the PC version of iTunes, not the Mac version, can do this also, but the result is so terrible that it's not worthwhile.
If they are "DRM" wma files, that is purchased from legit download sites (but I doubt if you have 10GB unless you are very rich!) then they can only be transferred to the Windows supporting MP3 players like Creative.
However, depending on the DRM licence you may be entitled to burn a CD from the DRM file. If you are you can then re-rip them in .mp3 format.
